Be Ready For Your First Orthodontic Consultation

Orthodontic Consultation

As you prepare for your orthodontic consultation, you might be feeling a little nervous. Don’t worry! The first visit to Lampros and Reopelle Orthodontics is a great opportunity for you to get to know Drs. Lampros and Reopelle and get a better understanding of your options and the treatment process.

Take a deep breath. You’ll feel more confident about your visit if you do a little preparation and know what to expect.

What Happens at an Orthodontic Consultation?

The consultation includes a casual conversation during which the orthodontist learns more about your teeth and your goals for orthodontic treatment. It also gives you a chance to ask questions and get familiar with the treatment options. Drs. Lampros and Reopelle will examine your teeth, look at your x-rays and facial photographs, analyze your bite, and determine the best course of action to improve your smile.

Give Us the Information We Need

We will need to see x-rays and photographs, but Drs. Lampros and Reopelle might also have some questions for you. For example, your lifestyle and future plans may help determine whether now is the right time to start orthodontics treatment. If you are planning a two-month trip to Europe, tell us!  Options such as accelerated orthodontics may be a great choice for your lifestyle.

Make a List of Questions

In the days and weeks leading up to your appointment, write down your questions as you think of them so you don’t forget to ask anything during your consultation. (And if you do forget one, or if you think of something later, no problem! Just give us a call.) Here are a few things you might have on your mind:

  • How long will my appointments take? How long will I have the braces?
  • Are there different types of braces? Is there one type that is better for me than another?
  • How many appointments will I need?
  • I’ve heard orthodontic treatments can be uncomfortable—how can I alleviate that discomfort?
  • Do I need headgear?
  • Is Roanoke Invisalign an option for me?
  • Will braces change the way I look, smile, or talk?
  • I have a big event coming up—can we wait to start treatment until after that event?
  • Do I have to avoid certain foods?
  • How do I take care of my teeth? Can I have dental cleanings while I have braces?
  • How much will it cost?

The answers to many of these questions depend upon your unique situation. We’ll be happy to answer all of these questions and any more you may think of.
